So far, my first discovery has been just how bloody cold it is so early in the morning.
This isn’t going to be much of a blog, as I haven’t actually started the job at time of writing, but I felt I ought to write something to commemorate the occasion. After all, it comes on the back of some fourteen months of searching for a proper job, so I’m pretty damn overjoyed to at last have some success.
I won’t say on here where I will be working (I don’t want to blot my copybook before I’ve even started!), but it involves politics and it involves working with people. Which is fairly vague, actually. But it should be fun. Hopefully I’ll even have a desk.
The last year and a bit has been trying in many ways. More than anything, the feeling of standing still whilst the world rushes onwards was extremely depressing. Those readers who have experienced periods of employment difficulty will understand what I mean, but for those who haven’t I’d suggest having a read of this article I wrote for LabourList a last month ago.
I owe a great deal of thanks to Laurence Durnan, of Political Scrapbook, for actually taking me on as an intern. I’ve learnt a lot there, and am eternally grateful for the skills it has given me the opportunity to acquire. I’ll miss the rush of getting breaking news stories out, chasing after sources, and dealing with grumpy press officers.
But now, it’s time for a new phase, a new adventure, a new voyage into the unknown. To boldly go, where… Oh , you get the idea.
